Tom Robbins reminds me a little of Douglas Adams (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe) and Jasper Fforde (Thursday Next novels). Basically, I was in prime position to enjoy Jitterbug Perfume to the fullest. I was experimenting with food combining, hiking mountains, meditation, sage burning and dabbing amber on my wrists. I have actually recommended it to several friends in my book club, though I didn't choose it for our group since I had already read it. Jitterbug Perfume was the perfect fictional companion to Campbell’s non-fiction. This one had everything! Gods, immortality, time travel.and lots of fun. Maybe the way he writes in each is too similar and becomes tedious before he gets to the story.
